Hunter is a little behind in school with these little flash cards that they send home weekly. Most of the words are "sight words". And most sight words are words that can not be sounded out. For example: white, yellow, like, orange, etc. So, they have to memorize what the word is to learn it. SO, I needed a little incentive program to get Hunter to really start getting serious about these. I came up with this cute, simple little idea. Here is what I do and what you will need to do it:
*Mason Jar (I use the qt. size)
* Puff balls, cotton balls, or whatever you want. Something to fill the jar is what your looking for here
Every time he gets a WORD right (not a letter or number as those are included in here to) he gets to put a puff ball in the jar. As soon as the jar is filled to the top he can trade in the puff balls for a small treat. I am considering the following a small treat: $1, toy from the dollar spot at target, small milkshake, etc. He also has the option to save his "jar fills" for three times and earn some more nerf darts for his nerf gun he got for Christmas. His choice. We did it for the first time tonight and I was a little disappointing at how few words he actually got. It was nice for BOTH of us to be able to actually see how many words he was getting right. It seems like its going to work out; he was really excited about the idea of it all and still is, so Im crossing my fingers!! GO HUNTER!!
